  • This one-day workshop will provide instruction on composition, metering and exposure techniques to assist the student how to best photograph nature’s most colorful change of season.  Bring your camera, your tripod, close-up equipment (extension tubes or bellows) or macro lens to photograph the wonderful world of the miniature.  We will walk first along the boardwalk to the shore of the lake and photograph milkweed pods exploding with their seeds half out. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time to photograph the large trees turning color all afternoon or the waterfowl swimming nearby!  Students are expected to meet at 10:00am in the Kensington Nature Center parking lot.  Bring a bag lunch.  After lunch, we will hike some of the nature trails that radiate from the Nature Center.  Near the end of the trail, we will stop and photograph some birds that are so habituated to man, that you have but to stick out the palm of your hand and several birds will land upon your hand hoping to snag some bird seed. Be ready with your camera (70-200mm is all you need). If you have bigger lenses, we will be close enough to the parking lot so you can walk back to your car and retrieve your big class and shoot the same birds perching on nearby tree branches before they fly to your outstretched hand.

Students will need:  camera, tripod, flash, close-up equipment (extension tubes or bellows) and macro lens to photograph the wonderful world of the miniature, and also both a wide angle and telephoto zoom lens, cable release and polarizing filter. If you do not own long focal length lenses, a teleconverter will work just fine. Also bring knee pads or garbage bags to lie upon as some of the macro subject matter is low to the ground.  Class goes rain or shine.  Non-shooting spouse just along for the walk may attend at no additional charge.  No small children.  Co-instruction Linda Piasecki is a trained naturalist/photographer to enhance your experience.
