  • The Great Smoky Mountain National Park stretches from Gatlinburg, Tennessee to Cherokee, North Carolina. Clear invigorating air, sparkling streams and virgin woodlands provide an unsurpassed background complete with waterfalls, wildlife and wildflowers. Photograph the Roaring Fork Stream cascading past giant moss covered boulders. Stroll through and shoot Cades Cove, an historic village preserved from a bygone era. The Smoky Mountains are an unspoiled, beautiful area any time of year, but Appalachia becomes a special place when the spring wildflowers and the Dogwood bloom.  This workshop is scheduled around Easter to accommodate people off from work and school. Easter occurs from late March to middle April. Spring wildflowers bloom at different times. If Easter is early, look for Hepatica, Spring Beauties, Blood Root, Rue Anemone, Squirrel Corn and Fringed Phaclilia. If Easter is later that year, you may expect to see several species of Trillium, Jack in the Pulpit, Columbine, Yellow Lady's Slipper, May Apple, or Wild Geranium and others. This is tripod shooting! We will cover close-up and macro techniques for shooting wild flowers extensively. Learn principles of composition embraced by all landscape photographers especially when photographing the numerous waterfalls and cascades right along side the road so there may be little to no hiking involved. You will learn techniques such as custom white balancing, noise reduction, focus stacking, exposure stacking for HDR, the use of tilt/shift lenses for panorama stitching, Black & White digital infra-red photography, color space for printing and many more. Minimal hiking is involved.

  • The American West offers exotic vistas and terrain including canyons, mountains and rock formations. Photograph unspoiled views of some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere.  Put your lens in front of the dynamic swirls curves and texture of rock formations eroded from eons of wind and water at Lower Antelope Canyon.  Shoot ancient Native American rock drawings (petroglyphs).  This is the high plains desert at its best!  The Navaho Indians use the word horozo, to “walk in beauty”.  You will see and walk in some of the most spectacular beauty this corner of the world has to offer.  We will not only “walk in beauty”, we will fly in beauty.  Your trip includes a sunrise hot air balloon ride over picturesque Sedona, Arizona, and photographing  Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona, AZ.  Our two-state excursion is based in Page, Arizona, about six hours south of Las Vegas, Nevada and about three hours north of the Grand Canyon. Horseshoe bend is here.  Ride a Jeep through Monument Valley and photograph the iconic mittens.  Visit ancient Indian ruins and an extinct volcano, both located on the edge of the Painted Desert, just east of Flagstaff.  Photograph giant Saguaro Cactus at Organ Pipe National Cactus Monument south of Tucson and a Milky Way night sky photographing opportunity there as well.  We plan to visit one of the famous Spanish Mission churches for some church architecture. We could not possibly go out west without visiting the Grand Canyon. (They don't call it the "Pretty Good Canyon")

  •      Join us for this five-evening - three-day photo safari to travel to Beaver Island (just off the coast of Charlevoix Michigan). The first evening (June 30 at 6:30PM) is a three-hour orientation at the MPW Wildbrook Campus to provide information about what equipment to bring, dark sky shooting etiquette and the techniques of using computer and cell phone apps to plan your shoot by knowing where in the sky the milky way will be and when there will be no light pollution from the moon. We will also provide the recipe of camera settings of shutter speeds, f/stops, ISO and lens selection to maximize your shoot. A light meal (bar-B-Que perhaps) is provided during both the orientation meeting and the follow up processing meeting a few weeks after our return.

  • When you think of Maine; think of Lobsters, Moose, Lighthouses, fishing villages and Fall Color.  This 6-day workshop will divide time among the Arcadia National Park in Bar Harbor, and the cities of Portland, Bernard, Southwest Harbor, Sommesville and Jonesport, Maine.  Photograph Lighthouses, spectacular harbors, fall color and fishing villages. Enjoy a sunset cruise on the three masted schooner; the Natalie Todd.  This is tripod shooting! Learn about landscape composition, how to shoot panorama photos, HDR, focus stacking and other important photographic techniques. This workshop is appropriate for both photographers and painters who may make paintings from their photos once back at home.  Airfare, meals, lodging and ground transportation are not included. Bring your laptop as there will be evening sessions to compliment the daytime shootings.  We will eat well and you will go to bed happy and tired. There is not much hiking with this class, but some venues do require a short walk to get there.
